Sniffles and Sneezles Spread Diseasles
Apr. 13th, 2017 07:03 amThe last few months have been stressful, to say the least, as he worked off his probation. Nothing he was made to do was out of malicious intent, of course, but hours upon hours of service work coupled with even more hours of solitary reflection meant it was a properly chastened Chirrut who returned to the fold.
It was also a Chirrut who'd been exposed to a majority of the pilgrims to the temple.
It was fairly inevitable that something lingered.
When Chirrut woke up this morning, the world was muffled, his chest heavy, his joints creaky and unhelpful. He ignored it.
That is to say, he forced himself up, went through the routines of getting ready for the day, but when it came time to actually set forth, he... stayed back. Casually. He didn't want a fuss, there was enough fuss over the last few months, this was just a cold. Once everyone was gone, he nabbed as many blankets as he could get his hands on, piling them onto his bed into a tangle of a nest to hide in... and then did exactly that. If this stupid thing was going to make his world muffled and off-balance, then he was just going to ride it out somewhere that didn't matter as much.

Date: 2017-04-14 02:52 am (UTC)"Stop stealing my blankets, and I wouldn't be so cranky." He sighs, but he comes out a little further, cautiously. His senses of direction and balance are just as muddled as the rest of it.
It's aggravating.
"I'm just going to spill it everywhere." He warns, grumpily.

Date: 2017-04-14 03:09 am (UTC)But no. This will be difficult enough without adding to the problem. Huffing dramatically he pulls himself out of the next far enough to sit up against the wall. And if he is being melodramatic about the whole thing to hide the fact that moving is... not entirely fun at the moment...
That's his own problem.
(Everything aches and his head is packed in cotton and if he could stop coughing for possibly five minutes consecutively that would be absolute bliss. He loathes being sick.)
"Lets have this life-giving soup then, if it will please you."

Date: 2017-04-14 03:19 am (UTC)"It does please me, that's why I brought it to you," Baze says, always happy when Chirrut actually lets him fuss. "Now, eat, eat, and I'll be right back with some tea."
Pronouncement made, he stands from the bed and heads to the kitchen.

Date: 2017-04-14 03:22 am (UTC)"Like a mother hen with one chick." He mutters, to the soup. It's not that he doesn't appreciate the care. He does, it's... nice. Warming, even more than the soup is.
But he's still going to give Baze grief over it. On principle.
It is, actually, really good soup, and now that he's got the bowl steady, he sips at it contentedly.

Date: 2017-04-14 03:35 am (UTC)"You've made progress! Good," Baze says, blowing on the tea to cool it. He takes the nearly-empty bowl from Chirrut and presses the mug into his hands. "You know, it doesn't surprise me that you're sick. Master Sheotar has been running you ragged all throughout your probation. Something had to give."

Date: 2017-04-14 03:50 am (UTC)Oh.
He hums contentment, shifting against the wall a little to settle lower. He's happy just breathing in the steam of the best tea in the universe (in his not so humble opinion).
"I am going to find out where you hide this." He informs Baze, just in case Baze forgot that promise.
He wonders if the tea matches the place it grew - if the lands around its field were green and growing and living the way Jedha's deserts aren't.
"I live to serve. She was right to do what she did."
Though he still, even now, cannot entirely forgive the boy who shot Baze.

Date: 2017-04-14 03:57 am (UTC)Baze settles on the bed again, tucking a blanket around Chirrut's shoulders. "Maybe she was," Baze says, patting his friend's knee. "But I'm glad it's over. Maybe she'll be gentler with you now. But frankly, you two are both so stubborn, I doubt you'll ever stop butting heads."

Date: 2017-04-14 04:01 am (UTC)"So, how were the kids? Still asking when I'll take you down again?"
no subject
Date: 2017-04-14 04:12 am (UTC)He pokes Chirrut in the chest. "But overall, the class is doing well. Chori has shown great improvement in her breathing techniques, and Siana knows how to throw a mean punch. Thanks for asking."

Date: 2017-04-14 04:27 am (UTC)"You are good for those children, you know. I don't know if the Elders have said."

Date: 2017-04-14 04:38 am (UTC)Baze folds his arms to curb the temptation to ruffle Chirrut's short-cropped hair. "Thank you," the older Guardian says, sincerely. "They haven't, but I wouldn't believe them like I believe you. I didn't think I would be good for them. But I like teaching the class. You help a great deal, you know. The kids missed you today. So you need to drink your tea and stop being sick so you can come be a good example for them again."

Date: 2017-04-14 04:50 am (UTC)"Oh Chirrut, they're going to be traumatized! Oh Chirrut, they'll hate me forever!" He continues in a bizarre falsetto that comes out even more mangled than usual thanks to the congestion.

Date: 2017-04-14 06:10 am (UTC)"There's more?" It's pathetic. Also deeply hopeful, but that's a given when he's being offered his favorite tea.

Date: 2017-04-14 06:18 am (UTC)He slips out of the room, taking the dirty dishes with him. When he returns, he has a piping hot mug of sapir tea with him. "How are you feeling? Any better? You're not nesting near as much."

Date: 2017-04-14 06:23 am (UTC)"I am moderately less dead." Chirrut agrees - the soup soothed his throat and while the coughing is beyond annoying, at least it isn't the unproductive wheeze of earlier this morning.
"Everything is still..." He waves a hand vaguely, both because he doesn't really know the shape of the gesture he's aiming for, and because he isn't quite sure what the word is that goes here. "Muted? Good word as any." And he's tired, which is ridiculous, he has been drowsing all morning and he hasn't done anything other than raid for blankets.
